    Atopic dermatitis

My baby daughter has this rash that is seen on her cheeks and around the mouth. I asked her pediatrician about it and he said it will just disappear when she reaches school age. Is there a home remedy for atopic dermatitis in infants?

I agree; ask your pediatrician for specific lotions to use. Switch to a hypoallergenic soap (as opposed to Johnson & Johnson, for example) and perhaps an all-natural laundry detergent as well.

I think that identifying the factors that trigger flare-ups is a key step. These may include foods which your baby is allergic to, fabrics, soaps, heat, or even smoke...Lubricants and creams are also essential.

If your dermatologist prescribes a cream or ointment you want to be really careful to be sure your baby does not put his hand in it and then put the same hand into the mouth. Those ointments are not good to ingest.

My daughter had the same thing when she was a lot younger. Hers was on her arms and legs though and the cream that she was given worked wonderful. She has since outgrown this so I bet your baby will too.

My grandson has had a rash since he was about a month old and the doctor told my daughter he had baby eczema. Now, I wasn't with her to hear the details for myself but from what she told me, it's not the same as when an older child or adult gets eczema. Apparently, it's quite common and it doesn't mean the baby will have eczema or allergies when they get older.

The doctor told her not to worry about it and it would go away on its own. However, she is concerned that it seems to be causing him discomfort so wants to put something on it to relieve any itching or possible pain. What is good for this that will still be gentle on his baby skin? I had three children but none of them had this condition so I haven't a clue what to tell her to use.

Lotion is one of ways to prevent dermatitis.

In my point of view You need to carefully follow the treatment plan. Try to notice what is or isn't helpful. Symptoms usually improve with the right skin care and lifestyle changes. Atopic dermatitis treatment goals are to heal the skin and prevent flares. Your doctor will help you and develop a good skin care routine and avoid things that lead to flares.
