    Eczema as an adult?

I have always had "dry skin" but about a year ago I started to get red itchy spots on my legs, back and arms. I ended up going to a dermatologist and they said it was eczema. How can skin change so much? I still live in the same area that I have always lived (so no different water, air, sun, etc). I found it odd to have gotten eczema in my 30's.

Has this happened to you or anyone you know? Is it normal and will I too outgrow it like my daughter did when she was a child?

It is perfectly normal to develop eczema as you get older. People also develop allergies in their 30s, 40s and beyond that never had allergies before and although there isn't any scientific proof that allergies cause eczema, those of us who deal with it know that the two are most definitely connected.

Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that you will outgrow it when you develop eczema as an adult. It can happen but it's not common.

Eczema must be pretty popular right now. Both I and my husband have recently developed it and I have a couple of girlfriends who were diagnosed with it too. I wonder if maybe there are some environmental factors affecting this?

I never experienced having eczema yet, maybe I would when I get older. Of course, my mother and my aunt have them at the back of their legs, nape and arms so I am thinking that I would possibly develop them as well in later life.
