    Preventing Psoriasis

My mom has psoriasis and my little brother has psoriasis so apparently it's common in my family. Is there a way I can prevent psoriasis from popping up or do I have to wait for it to show up in order to get rid of it? Is there any way at all to avoid it?

I had no idea that smoking and alcohol consumption could trigger psoriasis. It's helpful to know that. I am always avoiding sunburn so keeping my skin from too much direct exposure is no problem. Thanks for the advice!

We may not be aware most of the time, but I think that having a healthy lifestyle actually does more than what we know. A healthy lifestyle can promote good skin health and condition...I agree with Vanna, keep your skin moisturized and hydrated. This is achieved through using a good lotion and drinking lots of water!

I have read in an online article that Psoriasis is not curable because it's already in the genes acquired from a family member that has it. The only thing to do is prevention. Try to avoid stress, do not wear tight clothing, be cautious of beauty products and minimize your alcohol intake. That way you can avoid flare ups.

A healthy lifestyle is very important to alleviate psoriasis. There's a good chance you'll still get it but at least you can minimize its effects. Along with the other suggestions mentioned, try using a humidifier, avoid picking at your skin, and if you can, avoid cold, dry weather. I know the last suggestion is more difficult.

My mom and my son have psoriasis. Both on the scalp and elbows. My husband brought home some Sivadene from work. If you put it on your scab, the next day it comes right off. My son has nothing he can do about his scalp except to use any kind of hair conditioner he leaves on for like 2 or 3 minutes. It controls his scalp psoriasis. Hope that helps.
