    Tinea Versicolor

I have had Tinea Versicolor since I was about 13 and though it's getting better over time, I would love to get rid of it now that I'm 21. If you don't know what it is, it's dots of discoloration on the skin that can move around the body. It's a type of fungus, not contagious though. Does anybody have advice to get rid of it, besides using Selsun Blue?

Thanks, that is really helpful advice. I've tried soaps and shampoos with anti-fungal properties but I didn't know there were creams I could look into. I also didn't know about ketoconazole. I've used Selsun Blue and an anti-fungal tea tree oil soap but neither has worked perfectly.

In reading on the subject, I came across some additional information which might be helpful. A change in your diet may be recommended. Try not to overindulge in foods containing flour and sugar. Eating fresh fruits and vegetable is recommended with the emphasis on broccoli, green beans and other leafy vegetables at least 4 times a week. Also, buying garlic gel capsules may help. Lastly, enjoying sugar free yogurt with live bacteria three times a week may also help.

Thank you for the advice. I do eat a lot of broccoli but I didn't know it would be beneficial. I might look into garlic gel capsules and see if I can tell a difference. I have been working from the outside, in but maybe I should be aiming for the inside, out.

I am definitely going to try some of these things. I think I'll continue using the soaps I've been using for now because they have significantly decreased the affected area.

Tinea versicolor is relatively common problem and nowadays many of solution available so you should try treatment consists of applying antifungal medicines to the skin. These medications include clotrimazole, ketoconazole, and miconazole. Over-the-counter dandruff shampoos applied to the skin for 10 minutes each day in the shower may also help treat the skin.
