Does the Oil Cleansing Method Work?

I recently read about the oil cleansing method. It seems intriguing but I'm a little skeptical. Has anyone here tried it and how did it work for you?

The oil cleansing method seems to be becoming popular, but I haven't actually tried it. I don't know much about it and what it can do. My impression is that it won't work for me because I have oily skin, so I'm actually hesitant to give it a shot...But I could be wrong.

I remember when I read about it that it claims to work for all skin types. All you have to do is vary the ratio of castor oil to olive (or other carrier) oil. The castor oil is drying, so someone like Cedes, with oily skin, would use more castor oil than someone like me, whose skin is drier.

I tried it for a couple months, but didn't have much success. I put too much castor oil in initially so my face got rather tight and dry. I adjusted the ratio to include more olive oil but then it felt really greasy and clogging. Perhaps if I had tried a different carrier oil, like jojoba, it would've worked better. I read somewhere that jojoba oil is closest to the sebum we naturally produce, although I don't know how true that claim is.

I have talked to other women about it who love the method and they said you really have to make sure you take the time to steam your pores so they open and release the oil. Maybe I didn't do that long enough, although I thought I had at the time. They also added a few steps by using apple cider vinegar as a toner after the cleanse and scrubbed once a week with either baking soda or a baking soda/extra virgin coconut oil mixture.

Also remember there is an initial detox period, so your face may not look great for a few weeks at first. After that you can evaluate its efficacy.

I never tried that kind of method but I know for a fact that it should not be used in an oily skin or for treatment of skin that is prone to acne. It is still best to consult your dermatologist before trying out the oil cleansing method, otherwise you might get your skin in trouble.

That is great, I have first time heard about this method of cleansing. Is it beneficial for oily skin as well?
