Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease that disfigures the faces and bodies of millions with recurrent red scaly patches. It may not be that dangerous as others think but it may affect both genders. It may affect a person when he or she becomes a teenager and at the worse may develop during the later stages of life. The cause of psoriasis is an inherited fault in the body’s antigen-antibody response to foreign organisms. Just recently, the leukocyte antigen genes have been discovered as one of the factors behind why such diseases as psoriasis affect the human body. There is no reason to fret when it comes to having the skin condition as you can learn how to treat psoriasis using the following tips.
Tip #1: Know what to expect with this condition.
People suffering from psoriasis in its mild or acute form should not expect to be cured by any of the well-advertised patent medicines or special preparations, or by quacks who promise quick and easy cures. Such cures are at best worthless and at worst harmful.
Tip #2: Try to undergo ultraviolet radiation therapy.
This is performed after application of crude coal tar on the affected areas. However, this might be inconvenient because you need to stay in the hospital for two weeks.
Tip #3: Use methotrexate.
This is an anti-cancer drug that is considered efficient in treating psoriasis because it can slow down skin cell reproduction by interfering with the genetic material in the cells. However, this treatment cannot be used on a long-term basis because of its potential danger to the liver.
Tip #4: Try Photo-chemotherapy and methoxsalen drug.
The combination of these two is efficient in treating psoriasis. Methoxsalen is an oral drug that is best combined with photo-chemotherapy plus an exposure to a specially-designed ultraviolet light system that delivers enough radiation to activate the drug, but at a wave length that will not burn the person’s skin. It had been reported that people with psoriasis who underwent this type of medication had permanently experienced disappearance of symptoms associated to psoriasis.
Tip #5: Try any herbal remedy.
This is an alternative treatment for psoriasis. A blend of Epsom bath salt and olive oil that is applied to the affected area is quite effective in relieving the symptoms associated to psoriasis. Likewise, garlic oil and aloe Vera gel have also proven to be good in curing psoriasis symptoms.
Tip #6: Use soap and oil.
There are certain soaps and oils available that can help regulate the mild form of psoriasis. Soaps that are formulated with goat milk, tea tree oil and oatmeal are considered efficient in averting or comforting further and existing outburst of psoriasis.
Tip #7: Stay away from irritants and stress.
Do not use abrasive detergents, clothing starch, deodorant soaps or dandruff shampoos because they can help aggravate psoriasis. Take note too of the things that can trigger the condition and the pattern of the outbreaks to find out if these things worsen psoriasis.
Since psoriasis is not curable, the only thing you can do is to avoid having it. Better yet, be careful in what you eat or apply on your skin if you had it already to lessen the inflammation.
