Many people complain of having large and visible pores especially those with oily or acne-prone skin. When clogged with dirt, oil and dead skin cells, the pores are stretched and sagged. According to Richard Glogau, M.D. who is a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California at San Francisco, it is impossible to change pore size. Though we cannot possibly change the size of size of these pores, there are some ways at least to improve the appearance of it and there are ways to make the skin appear more flawless and smooth as well. Here are specific tips on how to reduce pore visibility.
Tip #1: Practice Good Skin Care Habits
Keep your face always clean. Remove your makeup at night and wash face thoroughly to keep pores clean. The larger the pore will look if there are more dirt, oil, makeup and grime that are accumulated in them. If you always get pimples, do not squeeze or pick at them because this can stretch and damage your pores causing them to scar.
Tip #2: Try Retinoids
Retinoids are topical forms of vitamin A and these have varying particle sizes to penetrate skin at various levels so as to improve its appearance. The daily use of retinoids can reduce large pores and also keep each layer of the skin hydrated and toned. This is according to Nerida Joy, the founder of Nerida Joy Skincare. There are retinoids that can be bought over-the-counter but the most effective ones are available with a prescription. Buy products that contain retinol, retinoid acid, retinyl acetate or retinyl palmitate.
Tip #3: Apply Vitamin C Topically
The application of vitamin C topically can increase levels of collagen and elastin in the skin which can lead to a firmer and smoother appearance. If the skin looks plumper, it makes the pores appear to shrink or contract. Apply a serum which contains vitamin C after cleaning your face and before you apply moisturizer at night.
Tip #4: Use Products Containing Salicylic Acid
The author of “The Skin Type Solution,” Leslie Baumann, M.D. recommends the use of products that contain salicylic acid for those persons having oily skin or are prone to acne. Salicylic acid treats skin that has excess oil and sebum and clears it out so that the appearance of pores is reduced and that gives the skin a fresh matte appearance.
Tip #5: Apply Masks
The application of mask can even your skin tone and tighten pores too. Clay masks can suck the oil from the skin that clogs and fills large pores. Peel-off masks, on the other hand, constrict pores and pull away dead skin and dirt. Using egg white masks contributes to a tightened look of the pores.
Tip #6: Make an Appointment with a Dermatologist
You can consult your dermatologist if you can be a candidate for a chemical peel. Chemical peels cannot only reduce the size of your pores but can also smooth and even out your skin and tighten the pores for a better appearance. In chemical peel, they will thoroughly clean your face before applying a chemical solution on it. After which you rinse the solution off taking with it the top layer of the skin to reveal a new skin with tightened pores underneath of it.
There are so many things to take note of when it comes to reducing large pores. The secret is to use whatever you have in your homes and of course to ask the dermatologist about it.
