Sunburn is an inflammation of the skin caused by the actinic ultraviolet rays of the sun, manifested by simple reddening of the skin in mild cases and blisters as well as blebs after too much exposure to the sun. Summer season is the period for sunburn. But, no matter what season it is you can still have sunburn particularly if you are fond of going to the beach. There is greater penetration of ultraviolet rays near the sea, and the burning effect of bright sunlight is reflected by the snow.  Excessive and repeated exposure to strong sunlight is damaging to the skin and may even result to skin cancer. Tip #1:  Use sunscreen.

Prior to going outdoors, make sure that each part of your skin that will be exposed to the sun is coated with sunscreen. Apply sufficient amount of sunscreen particularly on your hands, face, ears or even a part of your hair to prevent the damaging effect of the ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Make sure to bring sunscreen wherever you may go so that you can reapply it on your skin every after several hours. It is necessary that you should apply sunscreen every two or three hours even if it is not indicated on the label. This is to make sure that you will not acquire sunburn even if you swim for a long time or sweat due to the hot climate.

Tip #2:  Apply sunscreen when you get out of the water.

If you have been swimming for an extended of time, make sure to apply sunscreen as soon as you get out of the water because there are products that are not water resistant. Sunscreens that are not water resistant will sooner or later wear off when opened to elements for an extensive span of time that is why reapplying is necessary.

Tip #3:  Wear hats.

It is important that you should wear wide-brimmed hats when going out to prevent your scalp as well as your face from too much exposure to the sun. Wide-brimmed hats help a lot in shielding your head and your face from the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Aside from that, even if you had put on sunscreen already on your face, you still need to protect your face from the sun because there are types of sunscreen that can result to skin discoloration if exposed to the sun.

Wearing sunglasses is also one of the ways to avoid getting sunburn on the sensitive skin areas around your eyes. Huge sunglasses are of great help particularly if you are on the beach.

Tip #5:  Wear long sleeved shirts and pants.

This is another way of protecting yourself from sunburn. Even if you had already applied sunscreen on the areas of your body that need it, it is still necessary to wear long sleeves and pants to avoid getting sunburn. This is particularly helpful if you are walking on the streets. This particular type of clothing will help tremendously in preventing your skin from getting sunburned.
