Tip #1: Know where and why calluses commonly occur.
Calluses can form in the hands and feet, especially if your work requires frequent involvement of these body parts. Calluses are the body’s way of protecting your skin against pressure and friction. Without calluses, your skin will be prone to lacerations and infections. Calluses appear naturally to protect by toughening you up.
Tip #2: Always wear comfortable shoes and footwear.
The best way to get rid of those calluses on your feet is by restricting them from bad footwear. Do not pack them up like sardines because tight or badly fitted shoes will cause your toes to rub against each other and will create friction that will later turn to be calluses. Poorly fitted shoes will also restrict the movements of your toes inside your shoe when you walk. This will put your feet in constant contact with the sole. Be sure to buy comfortable shoes that will allow your foot to have some breathing space.
Tip #3: Choose shoes with a soft insole.
This will allow your foot to dig in every time you make a step. There won’t be too much friction because pressure will be lessened. Good foot padding can also lessen calluses. You can buy separate foot padding if your shoes don’t have a good one. It will take time for calluses to disappear, so be patient if changes will not take effect right away.
Tip #4: Regularly soak and rub your feet in a solution.
Do this for at least 10 minutes per day and then scrub them using a pumice stone. This is a very effective way of getting rid of those calluses. For the solution where you can soak your feet, you just need some Epsom salts and vinegar. Use salicylic acid mixed in warm water. This will also soothe your tired feet. You can buy pumice stone at a pharmacy that sells pedicure items. Pumice stones are perfect for removing calluses.
Tip#5: If you have diabetes, be careful in scrubbing your feet.
To be safe, don’t scrub your feet on the side with pumice stone, instead use a soft body scrub or loofah to remove dead skin cells. Don’t risk cutting your skin and get an infection.
Tip #6: Try beach sand.
If you’re planning to go to the beach, you can rub your feet on the sand while sitting and relaxing. The sand acts as a natural pumice stone and scrapes away calluses.
Tip #7: Use moisturizers regularly.
There are lots of good moisturizers available in beauty shops today. There are even creams and moisturizers especially formulated to fight calluses.
Getting rid of calluses doesn’t require you to make a thorough scientific approach. The bottom line here is not to put too much pressure on your feet so that your body won’t react by giving you calluses.
