A foot scraper should be included in your basic items at home and in your travelling kit. Callused feet are very unpleasant to look at and may look like you have dirty feet. Cracked heels also attract dirt and debris. In summer months, men and women are apt to wear open shoes, sandals or flip flops which will expose their feet. A significant contributor to healthy looking feet aside from a good pedicure is a soft and youthful looking heel. This is where you may want to use a foot scraper to treat corns and calluses.
How to Use a Foot Scraper
Step #1: Choose the foot scraper you need.
The most common type of foot scarper is made of stand plastic or wood handled double sided scraper. There are lots of different kinds of foot scraper available in the market today. You just need to choose what is easier and more convenient for you to use.
Step #2: Use water before using the scraper.
To easily scrape calluses on your feet, you must first prepare water where you can soak your feet. Use warm water as far as your feet can withstand the temperature of the water. Soak your feet for at least 15 minutes. You don’t need a fancy foot spa basin; any container that is large enough to accommodate your feet will do. Just make sure to choose a container that can fully submerge your feet.
Step #3: Soak your foot in water.
Put the warm water into the container and you can add some foot soak ingredients to make soapsuds like a pinch of shampoo, hand soap, or even dish soap will work. Then you can also add salt (mineral or Epsom salt). Epsom salts are ideal to use especially if you have severe cracked heels. Then you can also add some olive oils or aromatic oils like chamomile to moisturize and soften your skin.
Step #4: Do the scraping.
After soaking, lay a towel next to the basin and place your feet on them, drying them gently. Then bring your foot up to the opposite knee. Flex your foot so that the ball of your foot will position outward. Just make sure to sit on a comfortable chair. Hold the scraper on the back with the scraping side towards your foot. Scrape off the skin in a downward motion. Repeat the backward and forward motions until there are no more calluses that you can feel. Touch your foot if the area is already smooth. Repeat the procedure to your other foot.
Step #5: You may use a pumice stone as well.
Some experts recommend the use of pumice stone to remove foot calluses. This is very easy to find and also effective in smoothing callused feet.
Step #6: Finish it up.
After scraping the calluses, moisturize and massage your feet all over especially in the area you have just treated. Massage can increase blood circulation, relax the muscles, and relieve pains and aches of tired feet. Don’t forget your toes; they also need special care. Rub each of your toes with a gentle touch and moisturize them too including your calves.
Foot scraping can be quiet relaxing. You also need to give time in doing this because part of doing a good job in grooming your feet is doing it well. Soaking your feet before scraping is very important so never attempt to use a foot scraper if your feet is dry. It may cause bleeding and thin your skin so much.
